What an amazing place. The food was wonderful. Had the best Indian taco I've ever had. The onion rings were also literally the best I've had. I live over an hour away but I'll be here every time I'm in Bixby.
WOW! Great Cafe--Delicious Food, Friendly staff, Cozy atmosphere! While it was Indian Taco Wednesday, I opted for the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner , and it did not disappoint. Now, understand--this is not a fancy-schmancy uppity restaurant. This is a 'find a seat honey I'll be right there, six booths and six tables, all the locals eat there, and folks talk to you' cafe. In other words, it's a great little small town America diner... And with food this good, and portions this big, it doesn't have to rely on touchy feely fluff...the food and service do that. (Obviously, since they've been at this corner for almost 11 years, they must be doing something right...) Even at 2PM on a Wednesday they were busy, yet I was greeted immediately, had my drink in under a minute, order taken in three, and my meal at the table--steaming hot, fresh, and delicious--in under five minutes. And that was about the average wait time of anyone who ordered while I was there. Impressive, since there were two servers taking care of everyone. So, to the steak...it was a very large chicken fried steak, covering almost the entire plate. Fresh cut, hand breaded, nicely seasoned, and for chicken fried steak--uncommonly tender. The mashed potatoes and gravy were reminiscent of diner spuds everywhere...also great with the steak. And, included in the dinner is your choice of a salad or cup of soup, a vegetable (corn, green beans, pinto beans or fried okra are the usuals), and a homemade roll or cornbread. I opted for the roll...one of the best I've had in quite awhile! While this was enough food to need a to-go box, I enjoyed it all in one sitting, and of course had to top it off with a slice of homemade, warm pecan pie and vanilla ice cream. The waitress forced me to and by forced, asked if I wanted dessert My meal was very reasonably priced, at 11.39 for the dinner. And judging by the portion sizes of other people's meals, everything on the menu is a real value for the money. Pro tip: if there are more than three people in your party, just order an entire pie for dessert. You can thank me later. So the next time you're in the Tulsa area, make a short drive over to Bixby and grab a seat at Johnson's Stepping Stone Cafe, and enjoy a good old fashioned diner favorite!
One of the best old fashioned hamburgers that I have had in a while. Onion rings were really good.
This is a nice place, on the small side but it's worth a visit. The staff is friendly, the service is great, the food comes out quickly even though they were packed at the time. The chicken fried steak is really good. I didn't really care for the mashed potatoes, they tasted more like instant than real mashed potatoes but the gravy made up for it. The pinto beans were good as well. For less than 9 a plate it is definitely worth it, and one could easily spend that amount at fast food restaurants and not get near the quality. They do need to go a little lighter on the salad dressing, my tomatoes were drowning. Overall, this could easily be a go to place! Gotta try the delicious looking burgers next time.
We love Johnson’s Stepping Stone! The jalapeno burgers are SO delicious! They get a nice crisp on the patty that just takes it over the top! The onion rings are to die for! Steak bites are delicious too! Jalapeno chicken sandwich on Fridays are crispy and flavorful! Great service and great prices!
The Chicken and Dumplings are fantastic. Definitely going back just for the soup! I really enjoyed the fried beef strips. Very tender and not to chewy. I would highly recommend these as well but have to have the cream gravy with it. The Onion rings have the perfect crisp to them. My wife enjoyed her club sandwich. We'll definitely be back.
An outstanding cafe. Friendly attentive service and excellent food, a good variety of diner menu offerings, at bargain prices. I just knew that my wife would order the Indian Taco. I just knew it! Wrong, she went with the Fish Basket, one of today’s specials. I followed her lead. A 10.99 value packed basket of food. Crispy coated fries, a school of fresh crusty hot moist catfish filets, great coleslaw, an odd looking, but delicious version of a hush puppy and a cup of perfect tartar sauce. Generous portions. You probably can’t eat it all. The ladies serving were constantly checking on customer needs, always greeting with big personable smiles. You will feel like you are a local and a regular customer here. The cafe is small, still packed with customers at 2:30 when we entered. The Stepping Stone Cafe knows how to fry fish.
Finally, I had the pleasure to eat here the other day. The only disappointment I have is that we did not go on Wednesday. I will be back to have an Indian Taco someday. The food was delicious. I had the steak and chicken finger basket. It was great. I loved the batter they used, and the steak was actually steak. My husband had the chicken fry steak. It was tasty. Overall, it was great tasty food.
